COMPLETED: Summer 2014

PROGRAM: New addition to a vintage summer house as well as a major renovation of the main floor of the existing house.

OVERVIEW: Three generations of one family have summered together at the circa 1927 house since 1958. The tradition continues with the current three generations of the family. Needs for more privacy and living space, as well as accessibility accommodations for the senior family members, prompted the owners to plan a sizable addition and to make selected modifications to the existing house. The program for the project included specific requests from the various family members: The old house was to retain its original identity. The major trees on site were to remain and become part of the new composition. A large screened porch was a must.

The new Kitchen, Dining Room and Screened Porch are shared by all three generations and winged bedrooms provide privacy. A central one-story Entry links the original house and the new addition. The original brick chimney, beloved by the owners, is "captured" in the new Entry link and the warm color and rustic texture of the brick lend character to the room. New windows throughout the addition are positioned to frame views of the stately trees on the property.
